I think I'm in the mood to celebrate summer properly.

Sue, you said the other day you wanted to try out Phoenix arms, right? I think they do sing-alongs of the Warlocks on Monday nights, which sounds like it'd be wiz.

Anyone else up for a night out? I promise we won't stay up too late. Just enough to have some fun. Ron? Justin? Daphs? Harry, I know you could use a cheering-up.

Mummy's working and Daddy's at Le'Strange and Rigel's already been sent to bed. I can leave. If they miss me later I can just say I was with Harry.

Fair warning, I am a terrible singer.

I'll see if I can come out, yeah.

I probably can't stay out too late, though.

Thanks.

Really.

Excuse me?

Sing-a-longs in a pub when my boyfriend is missing, kidnapped, and possibly dead?

No, thank you.

No one is saying anything, or, no one is saying anything to me. I wonder which it is.

You could have at least mentioned him in your entry.

Daphne,

You've not heard anything, have you? I say, it's well distressing, and must be moreso for you.

I'm sure there's no truth at all in the rumours, what. That seems entirely unlikely for someone of Draco's pedigree and stature. But I know all too well how jolly difficult it can be to ignore the worst of the reports and innuendos, when they seem impossible to avoid.

How are you holding up, if one may ask? I'm sorry I haven't had the opportunity to offer my sympathies before now but it's yours, late as it is. It's been quite the week, what, and in some ways it feels as if one is just regaining one's equilibrium. Though that's probably not true for you, being closer to Malfoy and Marvolo.

I say, if you--that is, I'm sure you've no shortage of friends to talk to but if you should want another, I can promise you complete discretion.

No, I've not heard anything.

The rumours aren't bothering me, thank you. One does wish, however, that the newspapers would be more specific about what, exactly, is being done to ensure Draco's safe recovery - aside from Lucius Malfoy offering up great gobs of galleons for anyone with information regarding Draco's whereabouts.

I'm as well as can be expected. I do best when I'm looking after someone else; thankfully, I've been helping Lizzie with the wedding plans. We couldn't really get started before, not with NEWTs and the challenge to worry about.

And Lizzie has been quite the keen listener, as well. So thank you for the offer, F-F, but as you yourself say, I've got no shortage of friends to talk to.

Yes, of course. One doesn't like to abuse one's friends' patience too much, either, though, so if there should come a time when you wish for a fresh perspective, please don't hesitate.

One also imagines that Mr Malfoy might be well frantic to keep details out of the papers, what. But yes, it is dashed disheartening to know so little of what is going on.

I say, have you asked Marvolo? If anyone's informed, what, it would be him, I should think. It is jolly well odd that no one has said anything to you, given your relationship to Draco.

Well, it is true that it really isn't a good time to trouble Lizzie with unpleasant things, given her state. She's dealt with burden enough these last months. So yes, thank you.

Oh. Well, it does seem rather selfish to pester Harry when he must be so very weighed down with grief and worry, and has Hydra and others there to turn to. But I should ask after him soon, at least.

Most are looking for me to speak, what with all the requests for interviews. Not that I would ever dream of doing one, and while the requests are understandable, I suppose, they're still bothersome.

Yes, it's difficult to know where to draw the line between being respectful of their grief, what, and pressing one's right to know what's going on. I wasn't particularly close to Professors Lestrange or McGonagall but it's still quite a shock to lose two such illustrious Council members at the same time.

I know just what you mean, about those distasteful interview requests. I had the same, what, when Hydra and I broke our engagement. Dashed impertinent, what. It must be all the more difficult, though, when they seem to think you've an inside track on things. I imagine that rather rubs salt in the wound.

So, Pansy doesn't know anything, either, then?

I suppose I thought 'girlfriend' would rate up there as someone who might be told a bit more about recent events, but then, Draco never did introduce me as anyone special to his parents and family. It's probably unreasonable to expect special treatment.

Oh, they're not still trying to interview you, are they? Everyone knows by now that she's "dating" Harry (please do note my use of quotation marks).

Pansy says that she doesn't. I think she's just gone and told me that no one's talking about Draco because they don't know what to say, and hence they carry on stoically, as usual. That's just a bit rich, seeing as Pansy is usually good at working melancholia into a lather. Though I suppose you don't know her well enough to know that. She does mean well, I know, and we usually get on, but I.. I found her invitation to go sing quite inappropriate.

No, no one's tried to interview me in some time. I've rather fallen off the A-list, now that I'm no longer attached to the Lestranges--I say, except as the 'beleaguered ex-boyfriend.' They seem to enjoy depicting me as too weak not to go on being mates with Harry, what, when really there's no reason to blame him. Mrs Lestrange had intended the two of them together long before I ever met Hydra, what. One can hardly object when they are only doing what's expected.

As for Pansy.... I do know her, you know, since my best mates are also her best mates, though one can't say that she and I are particularly close friends. She does mean well, what, so one forgives a great deal. I suppose the best one can say is that everyone addresses grief in his or her own way. I'm sorry it struck you as insensitive.

That's silly. Everyone has to be mates with Harry. He's the Lord Protector's son! The only people who would deliberately try to offend Harry are - well, dead.

I've no interest in holding grudges against Pansy, at any rate. It's simply a difficult time, just now. I hardly know which way my head is, anymore. No need to wallow about being dreary, you realise, but I suppose I'm just not in the mood to sing.

Do you know, I hadn't thought of it that way, what! Madam Umbridge, certainly. Had Harry objected to the Professors Carrow? Thomas, though one can't be certain Marvolo had anything to do with that. (I say, it wasn't Malfoy in one of the challenges, was it?) Though I say, he did try to save Fleet, Fawcett and Thomas Capper. I say, I don't know about Mr Avery but perhaps Marvolo wasn't happy with his sponsorship in the challenges.

Do you suppose Marvolo ordered the deaths of any of those people? One can't quite imagine him doing it himself, what.

No, of course not. Harry's not quite the ordering type, especially not ordering anyone to be hurt. With some exception. He coerced Vince and Greg into attacking Teddy, after all. And if he had anything to do with the Carrows' fate - well, all the better.

But who knows the ways in which the Lord Protector and the rest of the council look after him.

Oh, yes, I see what you're saying.

It's quite apparent that there are few who've shed any tears over Nott, what. I suppose we may never know who cast the final spell there. I've heard conflicting stories about it.

But perhaps if Draco's able to get away, he can shed light on the subject.

I say, he tended to look after Marvolo quite a bit, didn't he? Beyond just the concern of a mate, what. Do you suppose he's had anything to do with taking care of thorns in Harry's side?

Conflicting stories, indeed.

Thorns? Well, yes. Did Hydra never tell you anything about how they grew up together? It's always been Draco's role, as it were, to look after Harry.

But in the case of Teddy's fate, I don't think Draco was thinking of Harry. If Draco and Teddy did in fact duel, that is.

Oh, yes, I'm aware that Draco's always been more like a brother to Harry than a mere best mate, what, and to some extent he's always had more, er, political savvy than Marvolo, what. But there's quite a difference between acting as an advisor of sorts and--well, using Malfoy for the sort of jobs one coerces Crabbe and Goyle to perform, for example.

I say, Nott hadn't come after you, had he done? Dashed poor form, what. Though--not surprising, perhaps. Nott did have extremely ill manners.

Extremely ill manners. You do have a knack for the understatement, don't you?

Teddy was quite monstrous... there's my own version of the understatement. Even if I disregard my own personal history with him, I am quite confident in stating that that we're all better off without him, and that the fate he met was long coming.
