She mentioned meeting for ice-cream and dinner, and that if we wanted to go off on our own we could.

I don't think she'd be overly cross, only her brother was going to take all of us out to dinner, and I don't think he was planning on having a little kid with him. Maybe you could head back after ice cream and before dinner? And I could meet up with them then?
