Staying at Hogwarts during Christmas hols makes it seem both like Christmas went by far too fast (because we never left!) and that next term can't come soon enough (because it's odd to be at school and not at classes). I think we were running out of things to do, honestly. I'm sure the Prefects were nearly driven spare, as we all tend to invent things to do when bored. I know I've thoroughly devoured the books I got for Christmas already, and am almost looking forward to writing essays for a change.
It has been fun getting to know our guests from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang a bit better, though, and I've learned a few key things during our holiday. First, always have at least one person from Durmstrang on your side in a snowball fight. They have excellent aim, and know all sorts of great warming charms. Second, having native French speakers to talk to is an excellent way to learn all sorts of turns-of-phrase that one would never pick up in a formal tutoring session. I'm sure I'm nowhere near as proficient as some in my House, but it's been fun to practise, and the students from Beauxbatons that I've chatted with have been ever so gracious with my fumbling attempts to properly conjugate verbs.
Oh, and Mother, the formal photograph of Ewan looks really sweet. His fingers are so small! His hair looks like yours, and his chin is definitely from Prospero. I've cut the picture from the paper and have pasted it to the wall, but I'd love a copy of the photograph if you could send it along.
