Well, I suppose it’s been awhile since I’ve written in this old thing, so here goes. I thought this summer was going to be dead boring, but it’s turned out rather marvellously so far. I’ve been able to see lots of my friends, which has been absolutely brill, and I hope I’ll see the rest of them at the YPL trip coming up soon. Quidditch has been an education – I’m still awful at it, but it is fun to see up close and all, and I’ve certainly gotten lots better at dodging things. And it’s been fun getting to know Jordan and Fred and George Weasley and Wood, because I really haven’t spent much time with them before, and they’re all very funny and tell really fantastic jokes. And Ginny is just the sweetest. She really is a good Seeker. Better than I am, at least, but that’s not really saying much! Jeremy can be a bit much, but Gemma was a very good hostess, and Sally-Anne, could you tell her I enjoyed meeting her?

I’m very much looking forward to seeing what Padma has dug up when we go back to London next week (hurrah for London!). Oh, Padma – I’ve tracked down a few more books, and Mr Croaker from the Ministry sent me some things that are just brilliant, they’re copies of actual cases the Department of Mysteries worked back when lots of people were experimenting with time travel. There’s some really good stuff there, and I bet your book you found has summaries of some of them, but it’s great to have access to the real sources. He was ever so nice when we talked at the Ministry, he said I had a real head for this sort of thing, and when I wrote him a letter thanking him for our talk, he sent back this enormous packet for me to look through.

And Sally-Anne has yet to come here, which will be so much fun. Sally-Anne, I’ve got a tonne of things planned already -- we’re going to ride horses and go for lovely long walks and I’ll show you all the places I’ve been scouting out for us to go have picnics and things, and there’s even a place we can go bathing, and it’ll just be so much more fun with you around.

I think I’ve got the hang of Gloss House now, and it’s really not bad, even though I do miss the house in London. I think mum is planning on staying here most of the time when she’s married, because she’ll be taking charge of the household and things, and that takes a lot of time to sort out. But I’ll be sure to drag her to London for shopping and culture when I’m out for hols, because there really isn’t any of that around here. Ms Macalister isn’t terribly nice to me, but she isn’t nice to anybody, so that’s all right, I suppose. And Mr Pitt is always busy doing something or another for Prospero. I tried to get him to help me look up the Darby Parkinson case files in Prospero’s library, but he got quite cross about it, and said he didn’t have time for school projects, so I’m glad Padma found it for me instead. He’d remind me of Crispin, because he has a similar sort of job, but he isn’t nearly so nice. Mina and Fowles are all right, though. It’s a little strange having a cook instead of a house-elf, but Mina makes really good scones, nearly as good as Hitty’s, and she’s nice to talk to. Fowles doesn’t talk much at all, but he’s been helping me learn to ride, and he’s fairly patient about it. And so is the horse. I’m learning on Onions. It’s a funny name for a horse, but Fowles says it’s because she’s a liver chestnut, so it’s a bit of a joke.

And Mlle Haupert is teaching me French twice a week, and I’ve got exercises to practice on inbetween. She says my accent’s pretty decent, but verbs are the worst, and I just can’t get my brain around how they spell things. She tells some really interesting stories about what it was like growing up in France, though. And I still think it’s a really beautiful language, so I hope I get better at it.

That’s all for now, I think!

I can't wait to visit. Can I meet your horse when I come?
